The Running News
The Wanda Diamond League came to an end this past week and what an event it has been. The Championships that came just after Tokyo Olympics allowed in-person presence of fans and sparked some hope in the world that soon we might return to normalcy.
Diamond League finals
Title after title, Kenya registered outstanding performance at the Diamond League finals. First up we shared a wrap of Kenya’s 1500m favorites, Faith Kipyegon and Timothy Cheruiyot put up quite the fight to win their respective races.
More from the finals: Kenya’s steeplechase runner Norah Jeruto came first in the 3000m women's steeplechase in 9.07.33 to win her first diamond league title. Kiyeng Hyvin, a 2015 Africa championships gold medalist finished second in a time of 9.08.55.
800m champion Emanuel Korir added a Diamond trophy to his Olympic title after finishing first in 1.44.56. Rotich Ferguson came in second in 1.44.56. Benjamin Kigen added another Diamond league title after winning the 3000m steeplechase in 8.17.45. El bakkali Soufiane came in second in 8.17.70 while Kibiwot Abraham finished in third place.

Agnes Tirop Breaks 10Km record

Kenya’s long-distance runner Agnes Tirop is the new 10Km road race world record holder. Agnes clocked a time of 30:01 during the Adizero Road to Records event in Herzogenaurach, Germany this past Sunday. Tirop who came in fourth at the Tokyo Olympics said she was delighted with her performance indicating that it came as a big surprise to her.
Agnes attributed her win to the final 2 km push by compatriot, Sheila Chepkurui who came in second after running 30:17. Kenya’s Nancy Jelagat sealed an all Kenyan podium finish in a time of 30:50
Kip Keino classic weekend is here
An action-packed event awaits us in the coming days after stars, Mboma, Ta lou and Masilingi are set to clash at the Kip Keino classic event that begins on the 18th of September. Tokyo Olympic medalist Faith Kipyegon after a stellar win in Zurich will be joining among other athletes, Uganda’s 3000m summer Olympic gold medalist Peruth Chemutai.
Marie-Josee Ta Lou who is the World 100m bronze medallist and Christine Mboma who is the Olympic 200m silver medallist, will renew their rivalry in women’s 200m at the Kip Keino Classic. Mboma who had a fantastic performance at the Wanda Diamond league is certainly going to battle it out with the other athletes as she seeks yet another win. We are certainly looking forward to this event.
"It will be a bigger and more exciting event than last year. 80 athletes have registered for the national events while the discretionary and core events has attracted 185 athletes,"

Goodbye track, says Hellen Obiri.
The finals in Zurich wrapped up an 11-year track journey for Kenya’s track favorite Hellen Obiri.
At the Zurich 5000m finals, Obiri maintained a lead up to 3000m before Burundian Francine Niyonsaba put up an unrivaled fight to overtake and beat Hellen Obiri. Niyonsaba won in a time of 14.28.98. Helen Obiri came in second in 14.29.68 and Ethiopian Taye Elgayehu finished in the third position in 14.30.30.
In a pre-race interview with Kenya’s Citizen Digital, Obiri indicated that this would be her final race as she transitions to road racing. “After 11 years in track, I feel that has not been an easy task and I am excited to venture into another phase of my career. I think it is the right time to move on although I will really miss the track,” said Hellen Obiri.
Well, during Obiri’s half marathon debut in Istanbul early this year, she finished fifth in a time of 1:04:51. This performance made Obiri the fifth-fastest performer of all time. With that alone, we can't wait to see Obiri bring some action to the roads.

Christine Mboma smashes world U21 record
Things just keep getting better for the 18-year-old Namibian star. Mboma who won silver at the Tokyo Olympics had a superb season and added yet another trophy after winning the 200m in Zurich. Mboma won the race in 21.78 to set a new World U20 record. Jackson Shericka came in second in 21.81 with a personal best while Asher-Smith came in third.
Kerley Fred wins Takes down De Grasse
Olympic silver medalist Fred Kerley won the 100m finals in Zurich after beating Andre De Grasse and Ronnie Baker who came in second and third respectively. Kerley who became the first man to win the 100m, 200m, and 400m Diamond league events finished the race in 9.87 to claim victory. Andre De Grasse finished the race in 9.89 a new personal best.
Bednarek Kenneth storms to 200m victory in Zurich
American Kenneth Bednarek posted a time of 19.70 to win the 200m diamond league title ahead of Andre De Grasse who came in second in 19.72.
